Recently, I have been interested in recovering information about my mother's family, the Gargione's. I have created a website (http://gargione.intrasun.tcnj.edu/) with lots of interesting pictures of Alberto and Antonia. Family legend has it that they both came from Vatolla, Italy, and sure enough, I have recently met Guido Gargione, who now lives in Trenton. After surprising me with a big hug, he told me that we must be related because Vatolla, which he says is not more than a few houses and several cows, is his home town. My grandmother's maiden name, Vacarro, is more common than Gargione, and so I wonder if I will get more information about the Vacarros, who had--you guessed it--a fruit and vegetable market in South Chicago in the early part of the twentieth century. I still wonder, however, if there are some bigger secrets to uncover in the history of Alberto and Antonia.
